(Nigeria) Top 10 Producers of the Year (2016)

Couple record breaking singles, who gets the number 1 spot ?

 

Big Ups to all the talented artists across Nigeria, but more importantly a special shout to all the creative super talented producers out there, giving a landscape to the melody! its only right we
dedicate a top 10 producer list of 2016.

 

These are officially the architects of Nigerian wave at the moment.


Honorary mention: Don Jazzy

Michael Collins Ajereh aka the godfather, multi award-winning record producer, singer-songwriter, musician, current CEO of the Mavin Records. what hasnt he done? which hit song did he not produce over the years! Surulere, Godwin, Dorobucci just to name a few!

Don Jazzy is no doubt the front runner for producer of the decade. This year he seemed to be out of the limelight, gracefully giving space for new talent to shine aka Altims. Nevertheless he deserves an honorary mention.

10. Altims (Mavin) / Fresh (DMW) / Ckay (Chocolate City) / Dj Juls (BBnZ Live)

Mavin Record‘s secret weapon Altims aka Gbedu wet dey burst brain! Altims became mainstream after producing hit songs ‘Oluwa ni‘ & ‘Standard‘ for Reekado Banks. He went on to produce Korede Bello‘s ‘Do like that‘. We see a bright future in this talented DJ/Producer!

DMW in house producer Fresh crashed on to the scene after producing Mayorkun smash debut ‘Eleko‘ and ‘Yawa‘, he went on to produce DMW ‘Back to back‘ . Most recently gave us a another super banger with MayorkunLove you Tire‘ feat Mr Eazi.

Ckay has been a core member of the CBN movement prior to signing for Chocolate City both on production and songwriting. His production credits include Koker‘s ‘Give them‘, Dice AilesMiracle‘, Ice PrinceChike‘, Oritsefemi and SkalesZangarewa‘.

A lot of people dont realize but Dj Juls has been on the scene for a minute, however this year he made a big mark on the airwaves by producing two monster hits for 2016 breakout artist Mr Eazi, ‘Skin Tight‘ and ‘Hol Up‘. Skin tight alone arguably one of the biggest songs of 2016, bigger and better things to come for Dj Juls!

9. Legendury Beatz

Legendary beatz duo ( composed of brothers Uzezi Oniko and Okiemute Oniko) are definately a breath of fresh air ever since they landed with Wizkid on the scene . The two siblings hit limelight in the music industry after producing the critically acclaimed ‘Azonto‘, ‘Caro‘ and ‘Ojuelegba‘ for frequent collaborator and label boss Wizkid.

Recently they produced 3 well recieved songs from L.A.X ‘Ginger‘, ‘Gimme Dat‘, ‘Ole‘ and Seyi Shay‘s  ‘Crazy‘.

8. Sarz

Osabuohien Osaretin popularly known as Sarz has been on the scene for a minute. He continues to stay strong and relevant despite the influx of new dope producers in the scene.

Most recently sarz has produced D’banjBreaking news‘, ReminisceAsalamalekun‘ and lets not forget Niniola‘s break through smash ‘Soke‘.


7. Shizzi

Seyi Akerele aka Shizzi first came to our consciousness when he produced Davido’s break thought debut hit single ‘Dami Duro’. The HKN producer has proceeded to produce some of the biggest Davido records including ‘Gobe‘, ‘Skelewu‘ and ‘Tchelete‘ featuring Mafikizolo as well as ‘I love my baby’ and ‘Show You the money‘ for Star Boy , Wizkid.
Most recently Shizzi inspired the classic rhythm to Olamide’s anthem ‘Who U Epp‘.

6. Sess

Top freshman on the scene! Mastermind behind the musical transformation of Bahd Guys headline act Falz. Sess the problem kid has a strong production credit on his resume after producing the lion’s share of Falz sophmore album ‘Stories that touch‘, not to mention the acclaimed joint project ‘Chemistry‘ released by Falz & Simi.

Aside Falz’s two recent projects, Sess is also the architect behind ‘Bahd Baddo Baddest‘ featuring Olamide and Davido, plus Terry Apala‘s breakthrough single, ‘Champagne Shower‘.

5. Kriz Beatz

New kid on the block aka the King of the new Wave! He already deserves an honorary mention for the work he did on Tekno‘s chart topping ‘Pana‘. Massive tune on radio and around Africa. He is also the man behind Lil Kesh‘s trendng single ‘Shele gan gan‘ and  Skales‘ latest banger ‘Temper‘.

Did I mention he is working on his solo project slotted for a 2017 release? Dont sleep on Kriz Beatz the drummer boy.

4. Masterkraft

Masterkraft no doubt has mastered his craft ! Born Sunny Nweke, Masterkraft started production many years ago and can be credited for many popular songs that have buzzed the Nigerian music scene. The producer who is also the boss of General music is the producer of songs like Timaya’s ‘Ukwu’, Phyno‘s Headie award winning song ‘Fada Fada‘ and two CDQ assisted hit singles in ‘Indomie’ and ‘Nawo E SOke‘ , he followed up with two impressive joints, ‘Finally‘ feat Flavour and Sarkodie, not to mention Dj Xclusive‘s ‘Shawarma‘.

Masterkraft is indeed a force to reckon with within this industry with his diversity and contemporary efficiency. As a professional and experienced music/band director and piano instructor, he has been a major contributing factor in the LIVE performance wave taking over the industry.

3.Young John

When he burst onto the scene calling himself the ‘wicked producer‘, we all raised an eyebrow, but right now we understand! Young John has been on fire since the begining, Definately Lil Kesh‘s go to man, the chemistry in unbelievable. He is best known for producing the critically acclaimed singles ‘Efejoku‘ and ‘Shakitibobo‘. He has gone on to produced Kiss Daniels‘ smash hit ‘Mama‘, YBNL Viktoh‘s ‘Mad Jam‘ and  Pepenazi‘s ‘Illegal‘.

2. DJ Coublon

His been on fire for a couple years now, thats what I call consistency! producing major hits from 2014 to 2016 from Kiss Daniel‘s ‘Woju‘, ‘Laye‘,’Good Time‘ ,Tekno‘s ‘Duro‘, ‘wash‘, Yemi Alade‘s  ‘Ferrari‘ just to name a few, (not to mention Dj Shabsy record smashing hit ‘Raba‘). He has shown how dominating he can be to the music industry and am sure we should expect more hits from the talented DJ/Hit producer.

1. Del B

Del B aka Ayodele Basel became a household name after producing ‘Shake‘ for Flavour and ‘Limpopo‘ for Kcee. This mans knows what it means to be consistent, over the years he has blessed a variety of African artists with smashes. Most recently he produced PraizSisi‘, Dj Spinall‘s ‘Package‘, Runtown‘s ‘Bend Down Pause‘, mega hit  ‘Mad Over You‘ and Dj jimmy Jatt street anthem ‘Feeling the beat‘. We think he deserves the crown for 2016! what do you think?
