Rwanda to the World !
Rwandan short film, A Place For Myself, has been chosen to to partake in the forthcoming Toronto Black Film Festival (TBFF) in Canada.
“A Place for Myself” by Marie Clementine Dusabejambo captures the story of a five year old albino girl, Elikia, who attend a casual elementary school. Due to her skin coluor her classmates make her realize that her being ‘different’ is more a problem than a special trait. While the neighbourhood treats her as a stereotype, her mother encourages her. Together, they fight back and raise their voice to find a place for themselves.
The Toronto Black Film Festival is set to kick off on 15 February and comes to an end on the 19th. This year, 40 films from 20 countries around the world will be showcasing at the festival.
However, Dusabejambo will not be attending the TBFF, instead she’ll be attending the Panafrican Film and Television Festival (FESPACO) in Ouagadougou, happening from 25 February to 4 March.
“FESPACO is the greatest festival in Africa, there is a great film market and it has been a long-term dream for me. I got that opportunity to be selected and I won’t miss it,” she explained.
